Royal Rumble Review 2026

What a nightmare this Royal Rumble turned out to be. Could it have honestly gone any worse? I want to write a simple review of the show but I feel like I need to write an outright indictment of Triple H and his entire creative team.

They completely ruined John Cena’s farewell tour in my opinion, and now they gave the same horrible ending to AJ Styles career, and all for what? To put over Gunther? Good job!

Meanwhile, the only championship match on the entire show was Drew McIntyre vs Sami Zayn. It was an ok match, but I found it a very predictable outcome. So where was CM Punk? He didn’t defend his World Championship, and he didn’t compete in the Royal Rumble.

Let’s just cut to the chase already, the men’s Royal Rumble match was a trainwreck. Where to begin? Ok we get it, Triple H wants to put over the NXT Champion Oba Femi, obviously he is going to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, like we get it already.

Did Adam Pearce actually tell Finn Balor the Rumble was full and they didn’t have a spot for him? Then we see the 30 participants they had instead of Balor… there must have been at least 10 different masked wrestlers, included La Parka and Mr. Iguana? WTF?

If AJ Styles is really going to retire, then I think Finn Balor should have won the Royal Rumble to earn his rematch against CM Punk for the World Championship like Punk told him to do. In my opinion that would have been a better winner than Roman Reigns yet again. Are we seriously going to get stuck with another Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns WWE Championship match at WrestleMania for the third year in a row?

In my opinion, Finn Balor should have won, my next choices would have been LA Knight or Logan Paul. I think the Rumble should be used to build the next big superstar and put them in the main event.

I’m actually not going to complain about the women’s Royal Rumble match. I am happy with Liv Morgan as the winner, I think she really deserves it. Honourable mention to Maxxine Dupri, I think she is on her way now, and I just can’t get enough of Sol Ruca, she is going to be a World Champion!

Final thoughts, what happened to the return of Chris Jerchio? That was a huge rumour heading into the Rumble. I also thought there was a chance we might see some TNA talent like Dolph Ziggler or Jeff Hardy. Overall, I felt disappointed, and in regards to comments I’ve seen online, I agree most of the seats in the arena looked empty, very disappointing.
