Sid Justice made his WWF television debut on the July 20, 1991, episode of Superstars. Following vignettes that began airing in June 1991, he was introduced as a babyface aligned with Hulk Hogan and subsequently served as the special guest referee at SummerSlam 1991.
I don’t have any problem with how Sid was brought in, as the special guest referee for SummerSlam. That’s fine, it was a good way to break him in and the angle worked, it gave him the name Justice and fans really got behind him. If you don’t believe me go back and watch the promos when he rejected the side of Slaughter and then came out to talk to Hogan and Warrior, the crowd was behind him all the way.
After his role at SummerSlam I think Sid was off and running. Had the Ultimate Warrior not been fired on the spot that night I’m sure he could have done some great work with Sid in the aftermath. It always seemed like Sid and Warrior was a feud meant to happen, but it was just cursed never to happen. Still, it was a dream match I always wanted to see as a kid.
Ric Flair joined the WWF (now WWE) in August 1991, making his television debut on WWF Prime Time Wrestling on September 9, 1991, where he arrived as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, declaring himself the "real world's champion".
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, when Ric Flair made his debut he should have challenged Hulk Hogan on the spot to a title vs title match, only to lose the match to Hogan. Then Hogan should have destroyed the WCW Championship belt right after winning it.
I would have wanted to have Sid worked into the whole main event storyline when Hogan and Flair. So when Hogan destroyed Flair’s WCW Championship belt, Sid should have taken exception to this, claiming it wasn’t the right thing to do. This could have started to cause a rift between Sid and Hogan.I’ve always been torn on whether or not it was a mistake to turn Sid heel during his initial WWF run. I have always thought he could have replaced Hogan as the new face of the WWF. I think he was actually more over than Hogan, just as I believe Warrior was as well. When Sid eliminated Hogan from the Royal Rumble the crowd was cheering for Sid, that’s all the proof you need.
However, for the sake of this history rewrite, I am going to go with the heel turn for Sid. So I would have Sid betray Hogan and take Flair’s side when Hogan and Flair finally had a rematch for the WWF Championship. This could have been an episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Sid Justice could have been asked to be the guest referee again, only to turn on Hogan and help Flair win the title.
Afterwards, Sid would have joined Flair in the WWF version of the Four Horsemen, which would have been the Heenan Family. I think the other members should have been the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase, and Mr. Perfect Curt Henning. So then Flair and Sid would have completed the group of four.
Sidenote: I had mentioned in a previous post about Ric Flair’s WWF run, that he should have been given the Million Dollar Championship, and won the Intercontinental Championship to earn his way back to getting a title shot against Hogan.
So now that Flair was the new WWF Champion, I would have him award his new bodyguard Sid his Million Dollar Championship and Intercontinental Championship. Of course, the WWF would step in and say he can’t give someone the Intercontinental Championship, so Sid would have to win a battle royal to officially win the title, which he would easily do.Sidenote: To make things interesting, and foreshadowing, have the final two in the battle royal with Sid be Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.
Then I would have Ric Flair and Sid Justice win the WWF Tag Team Championships. Completing their quest to hold all the gold in the WWF all at once. A two man power trip.
Everything would be running smoothly for the Heenan Family, right up until the Royal Rumble. The WWF would announce that the WWF Championship would be on the line in the Royal Rumble. In this historic Rumble, as I have written before, I think the ending needs to be changed. The final three would still be Flair, Hogan, and Sid, however I never liked how the original ending played out. It never made sense for Hogan to get eliminated only to be a poor loser and drag Sid out. So I would have Hogan eliminate Flair, only for Flair to grab ahold of Hogan’s boot long enough for Sid to clothesline Hogan over the top to win the Rumble and become the new WWF Champion.
This is what would cause friction in the Heenan Family as Flair would be upset that Sid won his WWF Championship, and expect Sid to give it back, which Sid would refuse to do. Instead, Sid would offer Flair a title shot anytime, which Flair wouldn’t want because he wouldn't want to fight Sid. Instead, a triple threat main event would be booked for WrestleMania 8 between Sid, Flair, and Hogan.
It should seem like an obvious 2 on 1 handicapped match against Hogan, but in the build up to WrestleMania Sid and Flair would start turning on each other. Sid would have dropped the Intercontinental Championship as soon as he won the WWF Championship. He would have given back the Million Dollar Championship saying he didn’t need it anymore. And then he would have turned his back and walked out on Ric Flair during a tag-team match costing them the Tag Team Championships.
By the time they reached WrestleMania Sid would have quit the Heenan Family saying he didn’t need any of them anymore and he was better off on his own. So the main event of WrestleMania would have been a more divided triple threat match.
As I wrote before, the Ultimate Warrior would make his return just as he originally did and chase Sid away from ringside after he had powerbombed the Macho Man Randy Savage through the announce table. Flair would have attacked and injured Hogan’s knee and locked him in the figure four, which Hogan could not escape. Only Randy Savage would have recovered enough by that point to climb to the top rope and drop a flying elbow onto Flair, breaking his figure four hold. Hogan would have then crawled over to get the cover and the win to regain his WWF Championship. Now in the original history, Sid left the WWF at this point because he was not happy with how things had worked out there. So hopefully if things had gone this way instead he might have been happier and stayed. Going on that assumption and speculating what might have come next, I can only assume Sid would have continued to chase Hogan for the title he never technically lost, wanting a rematch. He would also have a feud with the Warrior because he interfered in the match and cost him his title.
Hogan was basically also leaving the company around this time, so I imagine Sid would have won the title back shortly after WrestleMania, probably on an episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event. So by the time they reached SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium, the main event could have been Sid Justice vs the Ultimate Warrior for the WWF Championship, which I think would have been amazing!
